Project Overview

A client provided us with drawings and dimensions for a new media unit for their living room. They had everything measured up and were looking for our expertise to build and deliver the unit. Their drawings featured some aspects which we had to alter during the building process, but the solutions to these hurdles ended up exceeding expectations, with the client left more than happy with a media unit for all their electronic systems, speakers and more.

Materials Used and Design of the Media Unit

We used oak for the top of the unit and contrasted that with a white painted base which features handleless doors, giving it a clean line design. In the middle of the unit is open shelving for media systems like stereos and DVD players, providing the client easy access.

For the base of the media unit, we used Hidrofugo MDF and an oak veneered top lipped in solid oak which is not only highly durable but provides a pristine finish. The handle-free cupboards feature soft close, concealed hinges which were ideal for all the client’s media equipment.

At the back of the unit, we included several generous sized holes for wires to be well managed and hidden out of site, emphasising the clean visual the unit provides.

Overcoming Challenges

The clients original design featured castors. Having determined from our years of experience that these wouldn’t be fit for purpose, we developed a flat bottom design to ensure the weight of the unit was distributed evenly and the unit could still be moved for effective cleaning. This solution resulted in a safe and aesthetically pleasing media unit that perfectly met the clients’ requirements.

We often face challenges like this when we make bespoke furniture for our customers, but our decades of expertise allow us to think of workarounds quickly.

What the Client Had to Say

The client was left with a new, hand-made media unit measured precisely to fit their space with easy access to their media systems, offering a clean look thanks to concealed hinges and wires. Here’s what the client had to say:

“Thank you so much for your delivery today, we are absolutely delighted with the unit, it’s everything we wanted and needed. The quality of finish is way beyond anything you see in the shops nowadays. Thankfully it has been quite straightforward to connect all of the home cinema system through the generous holes in the back which worked out perfectly… Once again thank you for the service through design and manufacture and, of course, your craftsmanship. It is a rare commodity these days, so long may you continue.”
